Greater than LOVE

When I was little I remember looking around during a festivity, we had a large family, so everyone behaved kindly and joyfully, I guess I've always been the kind of person that wonders if something is the way is supposed to be, and this case was no different, so I asked myself the question, is there something greater than love? because it really seemed to me that was the end goal; think about it, grandpa working all the time, grandma cooking all the time, everybody else working all the time, of course as a child sometimes we don't know or comprehend that people work to sustain themselves, pay utilities, rent, whatever, but the festive environment really made a match in my mind with love, simply because everybody was happy, to put it in simple terms, who wants to be sad, after all?  After all that work!  And wasn't this very moment the result of their work? or rather, the moment they were all working for?

Well, I believed the Lord allowed or placed the question in my mind, for the purpose of seeking Him, now I know that God is Love and of course, there's nothing greater than God, therefore nothing greater than love, the question has been answered and guess what, it has been answered to my delight, because I can't think of any other way to enjoy life, see!  The word "enjoy" is connected to love, and my whole being associates joy with the best possible condition of human existence, for intance, you have a headache, well that's pain! and that's no joy!  You see my point, who wants to be in pain; suffering it's sort of like a timeline, on the negative side of this timeline is pain, which grows into extreme pain and eventually becomes death, on the positive side of this timeline is joyfulness, which brings about the present of rejoicing and love, and keeps on giving in the manner of more life, and more joyfulness, this cycle repeats in many different patterns, just like the sunlight shines through a diamond every day throughout the year, always from a different angle, yet always beautiful.

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
1 John 4:8 (KJV)

Throughout the years I came to learn another truth about love, and that is that ONLY LOVE CAN PROTECT LIFE, for some that maybe obvious, but it took me a while to come to that conclusion, so now I share it with you, in case you might be wondering how so?  Well, think about how fragile life is, if it's not cared for, it perishes, it happens to plants, babies, even machines, and care is a branch of love, joyfulness is a branch of love, basically anything that maintains the life of something, anything that contributes to the extension of that life is considered love, so there you have it, not only there's nothing greater than love, but only love can protect life, I did find that very interesting and it really gives me assurance, knowing that since God is love, then there's no better place to seek protection, but under the canopy of His wings.

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
Matthew 23:37 (KJV)

Although the above verse may seem out of joint, it's not, because the Lord Jesus, being God in the flesh, was speaking in regards of protecting Jerusalem, but, in particular and perharps in regards to the attack of the Romans in 70 AD, for us today, the result of situations, and history that's written in the Bible, are there to build us up, to encourage us and even to correct us, and I almost forgot, to remove our fears, this last one is particularly important because we are fearful people, perhaps sometimes worst than chickens; But the Lord is merciful and gentle with us, so I want to pass that onto you, just as the Lord Jesus said, "Be not afraid!", so I say to you, don't be afraid, of the truth of course, be afraid if you do something wrong, as in illegal and as in not within the bounds of love within us.

The love within us, this is worth exploring a little bit, in the Bible the Lord Jesus said:

Matthew 5:28 (KJV)  But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

Which brings us to this point, what we do with our lives, with our bodies, and even our thoughts are just the expression or result of what's really taking place within us, within our hearts, therefore we ought to keep our hearts in check, and the best way to do that is to keep it in alignment with God's Word, which can only happen if we read His Word.

Proverbs 4:23 (KJV)  Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

I also want to leave you with this understanding that I believe the Lord gave me one day, talk about connecting the dots, I was thinking "God is love", and another thought was "God is perfect", then it came to me, God's Love is Perfect, so that in itself was a revelation to me, but then I remember a verse that I had previously read, which said "perfect love casts out fear", in conclusion, being under God's wings not only protects us, but removes fears and that to me has made a huge difference, doesn't mean I don't get fearful at times, but it does mean that regardless of the circumstances, His perfect love remains available to me, but I have to stand in His terms, through truth and humbleness; that was encouraging to me, and I hope it was to you.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
1 John 4:18 (KJV)
